Vol. 235 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - SDA Loans Limit.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present limit to the amount of SDA loans; and the year in which the limit for these loans was last raised.

The maximum loan limits applicable to local authority house-purchase loans were increased in June, 1965, to £2,500 in all areas except the County Boroughs of Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Waterford, Dublin County and the Borough of Dún Laoghaire, where a limit of £2,700 was applied. I announced yesterday increases in these limits to £2,700 and £3,000, respectively, and the inclusion of Galway Borough in the areas where the higher limit will apply in view of its designation as a primary development centre.

Would it be in order to ask the Minister if it is due to the fact that my question was tabled last week that he has now decided to increase the loan?

No; this Government deal with matters quickly, but——

The Government have been counting Deputies jumping over the PR stiles for the past three months and forgetting the duties for which they are elected.

This Government deal with things quickly, but not as quickly as that.

(Interruptions.)

Question No. 42.

This should have been done two or three months ago but nothing was done until we brought it to the Minister's notice.

The fact that it was announced yesterday means——

That we brought it to the Minister's notice.

——that the process of making this higher figure available started some months ago.

You are more concerned about the abolition of PR. You cannot see the forest for trees.

(Interruptions.)

Will Deputy Harte please cease shouting? Order.
