Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School Transport.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that 14 pupils in the Burnfort and Knuttery areas near Mallow, County Cork, have to travel up to 3½ miles to meet the bus serving their post-primary comprehensive centre in Mallow; and if he will provide a proper transport service for these pupils.

The post-primary transport scheme has been organised on the basis that pupils will not have more than three miles to travel, either to school or to a pick-up point on a school bus route. I am advised that only three of the pupils from the areas referred to by the Deputy live over three miles from a bus route to Mallow.

Revised transport routes for the coming school year are at present being drawn up. It is hoped, in the revision, to provide a fully satisfactory service for the Burnfort and Knuttery areas.
