Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration to US.

4.

asked the Minister for External Affairs (a) the number of people who have emigrated from Ireland to the US each year since 1960 and (b) the quota fixed by the US Government for each year since 1965; and if he can say what groups of Americans of Irish extraction are working to see that the present quota will be liberalised.

The numbers of Irish emigrants to the USA in each of the years 1960 to 1967 were 7,704, 6,497, 5,354, 6,237, 6,328, 5,378, 3,071 and 2,665 respectively. The quota for Irish emigrants for each of these years was 17,756. The efforts of American citizens of Irish extraction to have the Immigration and Nationality Act, 1965 amended are co-ordinated by the American Irish Immigration Committee.
