Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Textbooks in Irish.

42.

asked the Minister for Education (a) for what subjects on the present intermediate and leaving certificate courses a full range of adequate textbooks in Irish is not available; and (b) for what subjects on the proposed new leaving certificate course it is estimated that a full range of adequate textbooks will not be available by the time the new course is introduced.

A full range of adequate textbooks in Irish is at present not available in very many subjects on the intermediate and leaving certificate courses.

It is hoped that by the time the new leaving certificate course is introduced provision of an adequate supply of textbooks in Irish for all subjects will be well advanced.

43.

asked the Minister for Education if he proposes to introduce a scheme for the planned production of textbooks in Irish in order to make available a complete range of adequate textbooks in Irish for the intermediate and leaving certificate courses for children from the Gaeltacht and for children attending Irish-speaking schools.

I have in hand a scheme which will ensure that an adequate supply of textbooks in Irish for all subjects will be available in the future.
