Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Services Administration.

90.

asked the Minister for Health if in the reorganisation of health services he will increase the number of qualified medical administrators and give more direct responsibility in administration and policy making to doctors.

Part V of the White Paper on the Health Services and their Further Development outlines the future pattern which is proposed for the administration of the health services.

Policy making will, subject to the requirements of the central administration, be in the hands of the regional health boards, the membership of which will include representatives of the medical profession.

With regard to administration, this is not the stage to discuss details, but it can be accepted that the boards' staffing structure generally and the qualifications, capacity and experience to be required of members of the staff will be determined having regard to the duties to be assigned to them.
