Vol. 236 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Telephone Kiosk.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make arrangements to have a telephone kiosk provided for the people of Loughshinny, County Dublin as the only public telephone in the area is in a lock-up shop and is only available between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The use likely to be made of a telephone kiosk would not warrant its provision in present circumstances. However, the position at Loughshinny where there is a guaranteed call office is under discussion with the county council.

Is the Minister aware that I got a similar reply in respect of an area in Clondalkin but when other interests made representations they are now getting a telephone kiosk? Will the same thing happen in this case?

There has been no application for the removal of this telephone by Dublin County Council.

It is ridiculous to say that provision of a kiosk would not be warranted when there is no telephone available for people over a wide area at Loughshinny now and we still will not get a telephone kiosk. There is no telephone available from 7 o'clock at night until the following morning.

May I suggest that this is a holiday resort and that the provision of a telephone kiosk is highly desirable?

We might get it now when the Deputy asks for it.

Will the Minister now reconsider the matter?
