Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim Subpostoffices.

7.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of subpostoffices at present vacant in County Leitrim; the location of each; and the names of applicants to date in respect of each vacancy.

There are existing vacancies at two suboffices in County Leitrim, namely, Leckaun and Drumsna, and pending vacancies at two others, Mohill and Keshcarrigan. It is contrary to established practice to disclose the names of applicants for suboffice appointments.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary state when they will be filled?

The Deputy asked two or three questions in this respect. It is likely that the vacancy at Drumsna will be filled almost immediately. It is unlikely that the vacancy at Leckaun will be filled as this is a very small suboffice and personally I am satisfied from the evidence before me that this is an office in which the vacancy should not be filled. I expect the vacancies in Mohill and Keshcarrigan will be filled within the next three weeks to a month.
