Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Limerick Development.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the progress made by the West Limerick development team.

The West Limerick development team, which commenced operations in January last, has helped to advance projects aimed at furthering the economic development of the area. The team has been active in the development of their area and have examined 16 applications for assistance under the small industries scheme. Five of these have been approved, and consideration of the others is proceeding. The team has also been involved in the acquisition of lands for industrial development at Newcastle West and Kilmallock.

Tourism has also figured largely in the team's activities and efforts are being made to develop tourist amenities in the area. Arising from representations made by the team, approval has recently been given to apply to West Limerick the special rates of grants for tourist accommodation applicable in the underdeveloped areas.
