Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fiftieth Anniversary of Dáil Éireann.

2.

asked the Taoiseach whether any ceremony to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the first Dáil is planned for next January; and if he will give details.

The Government decided, some time ago, that such a ceremony should be held, and—following consultation by me with, among others, the Leaders of the Opposition Parties last month—an inter-departmental Committee has been set up to advise on the details of the ceremony. As soon as these details have been finally settled, a public announcement on the matter will be issued.

Will it be borne in mind that proper emphasis will be given to the democratic programme of the First Dáil since portions of that programme, as the Taoiseach knows, are still relevant——

This seems to be a separate question.

——and will he see that the democratic programme of the First Dáil is emphasised?

The theme of the ceremony will be the significance of the First Dáil and therefore the democratic programme would be part of its significance.
