Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Overall Growth Rate.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance how far the recent measures applied to contain or remove the inflationary pressures will affect the overall growth rate for 1969.

I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together.

It is anticipated that, notwithstanding the recent British measures to reduce domestic demand and imports, the increase in the volume of gross national product in 1969 will be of the order of 4 per cent. The budgetary measures taken earlier this month are unlikely to have more than a marginal effect on the growth rate next year.

As indicated in my reply to Deputy O'Leary on 20th November I expect total employment to rise in 1969.
