Vol. 237 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Cottages.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government why Kerry County Council considered the site offered by a person (name supplied) in Killarney for a new county council cottage was not suitable, in view of the fact that it was passed by the county medical officer of health; and whether any local objections were made to this proposal.

I am informed by Kerry County Council that this site was considered unsuitable for housing by their technical advisers because it is situated between two roads, is only 35 perches in area, and consists mainly of solid rock, which is well above ground level at the centre of the site. The local authority say that there is no record of any other objection locally to the acquisition of the site.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applications for new county council cottages which are at present under consideration by the Kerry County Council; and the number of cottages which the council expect to complete during the year ending 31st March, 1969.

I am informed by Kerry County Council that they have received a total of 700 applications for new cottages; that 670 of the applicants have been approved by them for rehousing and the remaining 30 applications are being examined; and that they expect to have work completed on about 111 cottages during the current financial year.
