Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Costs.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he intends to hold any consultation with building interests in an effort to minimise the increased building costs arising from increases in the rate of wholesale tax.

Consultations between my Department and building interests are held from time to time when it is considered that they will serve a useful purpose. I do not think that the consultations suggested by the Deputy would do this. As I indicated to the Deputy in reply to a question on the 28th November, the effects of wholesale and turnover taxes on building costs are mitigated by the fact that many building materials are exempt from them.
