Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Traffic Lights.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in the erection of traffic lights at Moneenageisha Cross, Galway; and if he can now indicate when these lights will be provided.

I explained to the House on a previous occasion, in reply to a question put down by Deputy Molloy, the necessity that the council's proposals for control of this intersection should be the subject of special study from the point of view of accident reduction. As a result of this study, which covered the period up to July, 1968, recommendations by An Foras Forbartha for the most suitable lay-out for the intersection were made available to the Council on the 14th November, together with approval to the provision of traffic light signals in accordance with those recommendations. It is accordingly a matter for the council now to proceed with the provision of traffic lights at the intersection.
