Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division and Acquisition.

114.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission propose to divide their estate at Modeligo, Ballyduff, County Waterford.

Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground it is not possible to indicate at present when a scheme of division can be planned for this 196 acre estate, possession of which was taken by the Land Commission last February. I am aware that the lands are in need of rehabilitation and this will also have to be undertaken before allotment takes place.

115.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received representations regarding taking over the estate of Thomas Wall, Ballybrannigan, Cloyne, County Cork for division amongst uneconomic holders in the district; and what action the Land Commission are taking in the matter.

116.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received representations regarding the taking over of the estate of the late Miss French Blake, Mogeely, County Cork, comprising some 400 acres for relief of congestion amongst uneconomic holders in the district, and what action the Land Commission are taking in the matter.

With your permission a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 115 and 116 together.

Representations have been received regarding the possible acquisition of these estates. Arrangements are in train to have an inspection carried out in both cases and the requisite notices under the Land Act, 1965, were served last month on the owners. Until the inspections have been completed it is not possible to indicate what action may follow.

117.

asked the Minister for Lands the total acreage of land in the possession of the Land Commission for division in County Wicklow; and when this will be allocated.

The area of arable land on hands of the Land Commission in County Wicklow at 31st March, 1968, was 1,300 acres, approximately. It is not possible to indicate when the individual estates comprised in this acreage will be allotted but there will be no avoidable delay. The necessary local inquiries preliminary to allotment are being pushed forward as rapidly as circumstances permit.

It is expected that an area of about 1,100 acres will be allotted in County Wicklow in the current year.
