Vol. 238 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Farmers' Dwellings.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to sanction the proposal submitted by Monaghan County Council to provide farmers on smallholdings with demountable type dwellings where their own houses are irreparable; and, if so, when.

On 4th November, 1968, I approved Monaghan County Council's proposal for the erection of prototype demountable dwellings for small farmers living in unfit houses. Following the building of these prototypes, a copy of the county engineer's report to the county council recommending the use of a particular type of system was received in my Department on 31st December, 1968. In order to have a full evaluation made of this recommendation I have asked the authority to submit the final estimated cost of the prototypes erected by them as compared with that of a traditional type cottage. On receipt of this information there will be no delay in conveying my decision to the council.
