Vol. 238 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Traffic Lights.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of (a) the need for traffic lights at the junction of Malahide Road and Swords Main Street, County Dublin, and (b) of any steps to provide this amenity.

The provision of traffic light signals is a matter for the local authority acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda Commissioner. No proposal to provide the signals in question has been made to my Department by the Dublin County Council.

In view of the fact that Deputy Seán Dunne is not here to ask a supplementary question on this, I want to say that there is a considerable amount of urgency involved because on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months it is quite impossible to cross the road at this point even with the assistance of the local gardaí. The people are complaining constantly to the county council and to the gardaí about this. Would the Minister take steps to have lights provided?

Why did not the Deputy put down a Question?

The three Fianna Fáil Deputies have been pressing for this for a very long time.

This shows the strength of their pressure.
