Vol. 238 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Import Deposit Scheme.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he has yet been able to secure agreement for Britain to pay the £2 million interest on the £25 million necessary to carry out the deposit scheme imposed on Ireland by the British import restrictions.

As I stated in the Dáil on 4th December last, I put certain suggestions to the British Prime Minister for off-setting the charge referred to in the question. This matter is due to be discussed further at the Ministerial meeting which will take place later this month.

Has the Taoiseach got no response at all since?

I did not anticipate I would because the pattern of the meetings now taking place was envisaged when I made the original suggestion.
