Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Native Timber.

96.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has considered the use of Skinpreg as a means of using native timber more frequently instead of hardwood.

I understand that "Skinpreg" is a new method of using plastics in the surface treatment of spruce wood developed in Sweden.

Patents for the process are still pending, but I have no doubt that, if the method is found to be technically successful and commercially viable, the appropriate Irish industries will be prepared to explore its possibilities.

Will the Minister take steps to have the process in Sweden examined?

Certainly.
