Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of County Roscommon River.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what action he proposes to take regarding the application received by the land project section of the Department for a grant for the cleaning of the Clougher river, Kilmick, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Roscommon.

Investigation of the application has indicated that owing to the level of the river Shannon a comprehensive scheme which would cater adequately for subsequent field drainage of lands in the area could not be planned. A further investigation which has reached an advanced stage is in progress to see if a scheme which would give worthwhile partial relief would be economically feasible. If this proves possible an appropriate Land Project grant will be offered to the nominated representative of the joint applicants.
