Vol. 238 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fluoridated Water Supplies.

24.

asked the Minister for Health how many local authorities have introduced fluorine into the public water supplies; and if there is evidence of the effect on children's teeth.

Forty-four public water supplies, in seventeen health authority areas have so far been fluoridated. Since most of these supplies have been fluoridated only for a short time it is yet too soon to have evidence of the effect of fluoridation. An interim study, in a limited area which has been fluoridated since 1964, indicates that there has been a beneficial effect on children's teeth in this area.
