With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 26, 27 and 28 together.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of acres of land suitable for building in the possession of the Dublin Corporation; the total number of sites available for tenancy, purchase and private building; the total number of houses under construction and the total number for which contracts have been approved and on which work will commence shortly; and the number of corporation vacancies expected this year.

I am informed by the corporation that they have acquired over 2,500 acres of land for building; that their building programme includes the provision, on these lands, of sites for 16,134 dwellings; that they are acquiring land for a further 5,030 dwellings; that 1,959 dwellings were under construction at 31st January, 1969; that contracts had been approved for, and work was about to begin on, 1,106 dwellings; that 1,007 other dwellings were then at tender stage; and that 870 casual vacancies in corporation dwellings are expected this year.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether all requests received from Dublin Corporation for capital for their housing programme have been approved; and the total amount of housing capital allocated to Dublin Corporation in the present financial year.

I have approved all Dublin Corporation's proposals for loans and all applications for draws of capital to meet expenditure on their housing construction programme to date. The total amount of housing capital allocated by me to the corporation for 1968-69 is £10.275 million.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses to be erected by the National Building Agency for Dublin Corporation in Tallaght; and when tenders will be invited.

The number of houses will be approximately 720. The agency hope to be in a position to invite tenders before the end of April next.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will be commenced by the contractors on the 342 tenant purchase houses at Old Bawn, Tallaght, for Dublin Corporation.

I am informed by the corporation that work on these houses is expected to be commenced in the near future.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with the National Building Agency for the provision of a tenant purchase housing scheme in the Ballyfermot and adjoining areas of Dublin so as to provide much-needed accommodation for workers in these areas.

The provision of any such scheme would be a matter for decision, in the first instance, by Dublin Corporation. I will consider sympathetically any request that they may make to me for the services of the agency in the matter.
