Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Schools.

36.

asked the Minister for Education what steps he is taking to have essential repairs carried out to Ardane and Tankerstown national schools, Bansha, County Tipperary, pending the erection of a new school.

37.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the urgent need for the erection of a new central school at Tankerstown, Bansha, County Tipperary; and what steps he is taking towards the provision of a school there.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

Arrangements are well advanced for the provision of a new central national school at Tankerstown to replace the existing Tankerstown and Ardane National Schools. The Commissioners of Public Works expect to be in a position to invite tenders for the building of the new school in about two to three months time.

Repairs were carried out, with the aid of State grants, to the Tankerstown school in 1964, and to the Ardane school in 1966. I have asked the Commissioners of Public Works to advise as to what further temporary works may be required to keep the buildings serviceable for the period during which they will be needed.
