Vol. 238 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification (Kerry).

25.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will name the townlands and areas in South Kerry constituency which are without ESB connections and how long it will take to facilitate the people concerned.

I am informed by the WSB that electricity was introduced into all rural areas in the South Kerry constituency under the initial Rural Electrification Scheme completed in 1965. The following rural areas in the constituency remain to be covered by the planned post development scheme under which the ESB are giving a further opportunity to unconnected house-holders to take supply: Glenbeigh, Killorglin, Ballydavid, Ballyferriter, Kilgarvan, Templenoe, Sneem, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Tuosist. The ESB regret that it would not be practicable for them to give the information by townlands.

The best present estimate is that all the aforementioned areas will be completed by 1973.

I explained the position regarding the progress of the rural electrification scheme in reply to parliamentary questions on 12th and 19th February, 1969.
