Vol. 238 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Insignia.

43.

asked the Minister for Justice in whom lies the ownership of the copyright of the insignia of the Garda Síochána; and what steps are taken to prevent its unauthorised use.

I am advised that copyright of the crest is vested in the State. I have no reason to think that any unauthorised use is being made of the crest.

Did the State give permission for the use of the insignia of the Garda Síochána on the diary referred to in Question No. 42, and, if so, to whom was the permission given and if any fee was given?

We have passed from Question No. 42. We are now dealing with Question No. 43.

In relation to Question No. 43, I am asking whether the State gave permission for the use of the insignia of the Garda Síochána on the Garda Diary?

The Garda insignia—its use was authorised in 1960 by the then Commissioner of the Garda Síochána. It is also authorised to appear on invitations to dances, golf club functions and various documents of that kind.
