Vol. 239 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired State Servants.

asked the Minister for Finance whether in the coming Budget he will keep in mind the hardship which has been caused to retired gardaí, teachers and civil servants by the impact of the cost of living increases on their pensions; and whether he will consider either increasing these pensions or making some sympathetic adjustment in relation to income tax allowances.

The question of increasing State pensions or of adjusting the income tax allowances is one for consideration in conjunction with the many other matters appropriate to the forthcoming Budget. I cannot, therefore, give any decision on it at this stage.
