Vol. 240 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Garda Patrols.

55.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increasing number of crimes taking place in Dublin during the hours of darkness, he will take steps to have the number of gardaí assigned to foot-patrol augmented.

The number of gardaí in the Dublin Metropolitan Area is greater than at any time in the past and the latest particulars supplied to me show that the number of foot-patrols at night has also been increased.

As well as being supplemented by gardaí patrolling in motor cars and motor cycles, the efficiency of foot-patrols has been increased considerably in recent years by the provision of pocket-radios which are carried by all the members.

I am satisfied that the Commissioner is making the best use of the manpower and equipment at his disposal.
