Vol. 240 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Drainage.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the drainage of the Owenmore-Arrow catchment area in County Sligo; when the survey started; if it is not yet complete, why; when the posting up stage will be reached; and when it is expected that work will start.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position of the Owenmore-Arrow scheme on the priority list of rivers not yet started under the Arterial Drainage Acts.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 26 together.

The Owenmore is No. 16 on the priority list of major catchments. There are seven catchments ahead of it on which construction works have not yet commenced. A start was made on the survey of this catchment in 1963 but because of shortage of engineering staff it has not yet been completed. It will be resumed this year but at this stage it is not possible to say when a drainage scheme will be ready or when works can be commenced.
