The only body in question under the aegis of my Department is the Board for the Employment of the Blind. The board was not formed until 1957.
The total amount borrowed by the board since its inception consists of a mortgage loan, £55,000, which was secured towards the purchase of the board's premises at Ardee Road, Rathmines. This loan, effective from 8th December, 1966, is repayable over a period of 35 years in six-monthly instalments made up of a proportion of the repayment of principal and a proportion of the accrued compound interest at 7 per cent per annum.

Of the bodies under the aegis of my Department six have no debts and are not included in the reply. Of the remaining seven only two were in existence at 31st March, 1956. The figures for increases show the increase from 1956 in respect of these two bodies and from the date of establishment in the case of the others. Up to 31st March, 1969, or the latest available date, the increase in the amount borrowed is £11,050,364 and in the cost of servicing £699,170.

As stated in my replies to previous similar questions the bodies with which I am concerned receive support in the form of grant from my Department and, except by way of temporary bank overdraft, the question of borrowing does not arise.
