Vol. 241 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Hospital Unit.

10.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a full statement on the position of the new £55,000 admission and treatment unit for psychiatric patients at St. Mary's Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo, the opening of which appears to have been delayed because of structural defects.

The Mayo County Council have decided that it is not feasible to open the admission and treatment unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Castlebar, until certain defects have been remedied. Protracted discussions have been taking place between the different parties directly concerned with a view to having the defects made good. As some of the issues are at present the subject of High Court proceedings and as others may possibly be the subject of litigation or arbitration, I feel that the present would not be an opportune time for me to comment on the position.
