asked the Minister for Local Government if he will introduce legislation as a matter of urgency to compel building companies to guarantee and insure houses built by them against major structural defects for a period of at least ten years.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is considering introducing regulations to compel builders and construction companies to insure houses, built by them. against major structural defects for a period of at least five years.

With your permission. a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

Before considering action on the lines suggested by the Deputies, J should like to see how the guarantee scheme introduced some months ago by the Irish Housebuilders Association for houses built by their members works in practice.
