Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Flood Losses.

166.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make provision in next year's Budget so that funds will be available to compensate landowners for flood losses; or if he will introduce legislation to completely de-rate flooded land.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, the liability of certain land holdings to periodic flooding is normally reflected in the valuation of those holdings and I do not consider that there is any special need for further relief from rates in respect of such holdings.
