Vol. 241 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxi Legislation.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to introduce any legislation which will eliminate any existing grievances of taxi owners in city and county areas.

I have no proposals at present to amend the existing law relating to the control of taxi operations. I have, however, set up an informal committee representing my own Department, the Garda Síochána and the Dublin Corporation to assemble relevant facts relating to the taxi and hackney business. Interested persons were invited by public notice published in the national press on the 21st July, 1969, to submit information to this committee. When this committee submits its report I will be in a better position to judge what amendments, if any, are necessary in the law governing taxi and hackney operations.
