Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retirement Pensions.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when it is intended to implement the Budget statement in relation to the introduction of a scheme of retirement pensions at age 65.

I hope to be in a position to have the legislation providing for such a scheme before the Dáil in the near future.

24.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider in the future amending the title old age pension to retirement pension or some such similar term.

It is implicit in the title retirement pension that the pension is payable only where the pensioner has retired. No such condition applies to either the contributory or non-contributory old age pension schemes in this country. Accordingly, it is not proposed to change the title of either scheme.
