Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Middle East Trade Mission.

73.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement in relation to his recent visit to the Middle East on a ten day trade mission; with whom he had trade discussions; and the results expected.

During the trade mission to the Middle East I visited Cyprus, the Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In all these countries I had discussions with the appropriate Ministers in regard to trade matters and I also met many businessmen during the course of the visit. The industrialists who accompanied me on the trade mission made many valuable contacts and while it is too soon yet to make a full evaluation the indications, so far, are that the mission will be successful. The business members of the mission have not yet returned and are pursuing further inquiries in some of the countries already visited and also in other states along the Arabian Gulf.
