asked the Minister for Lands the number of farmers in each county that have availed of the retirement scheme for farmers each year since 1965 to the latest available date.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

NOTES: (1) The scheme did not come into operation until January, 1967.

(2) At present, 11 further cases are in the final stages.

Would the Minister agree that the scheme as envisaged is not a success and that certain improvements would have to be introduced to make it more attractive to the people concerned?

The Deputy should have been here last week when one of his more distinguished colleagues was asking highly pertinent questions on this particular subject. Perhaps he might like to read the comments I made on that particular occasion.
