Vol. 242 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Multi-Storey Car Parks.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many cars can be parked in the multi-storey car park proposed by Dublin Corporation at Bride Street; and how the corporation selected possible developers to indicate their interest or otherwise; the developers so selected; and what developers have replied, indicating interest.

45.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Local Government if Dublin Corporation propose to provide multi-storey car parking facilities in city centre areas; and if any commercial concern has shown an interest in building such parks.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 44 and 45 together.

These are matters for Dublin Corporation. I understand that the corporation invited, by public advertisement, offers from developers for the development of a site at Bride Street to include a multi-storey car-park. I have not been advised by the corporation as to what developers submitted proposals or the nature of these proposals.

Will a contribution from the Road Fund be made towards the cost of this car-park?

That has not been decided yet. There are no definite proposals before me for this at all.

Will the Minister fulfil a promise he already gave that a contribution will be made?

I do not see why this should arise. The proposal is that this should be done by commercial firms.

Is there to be no contribution?

There is not sufficient money in the Road Fund for this purpose.

What is the Minister doing with the fund?

The Road Fund is being utilised for the purpose for which it is raised and that does not concern only the city of Dublin; the rest of the country has to be dealt with as well.

Dublin is getting only one-seventh of what it is contributing.

It is an appropriate amount.

It is not appropriate to the contribution it makes.

Have Dublin Corporation acquired a site for this purpose?

Yes, they have a site at Bride Street.

When will they do something with it?

If the Deputy had been listening to the reply he would know.

The reply was too vague.
