Vol. 242 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Polythene Tax Exemption.

33.

andMr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if he will now consider exemption from turnover tax and wholesale tax in respect of polythene which is largely used for agricultural packaging.

Polythene sheeting is widely used for purposes other than agriculture and it is not practicable to exempt it from turnover tax or wholesale tax.

Is the Minister aware that 90 per cent of polythene packaging is used for agricultural purposes?

I am not so aware.

Between 85 to 90 per cent is used for this purpose.
