Vol. 242 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Drainage Workers.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance when the pay increase under the public service award will be made to drainage workers in County Kerry; when retrospective payment of the increase will be made; and if improved working conditions will be implemented.

The increase in pay recently authorised for drainage workers has been paid. The retrospection involved is being calculated and payment of arrears will commence next week.

We strive to provide good working conditions for men employed on drainage schemes. The provision of additional amenities is receiving active consideration and some have already been provided on an experimental basis on a few sites. It is hoped to extend their use to all drainage works shortly.
