Written Answers. - Salary of Local Government Officers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give information on proposals received from local authorities from 1st April, 1969 to date and his decision on those proposals affecting the salary of local government officers.

Presumably the question relates to proposals affecting the salaries of local authority officers generally and/or particular grades which are common to all or the majority of local authorities and have common salary scales. The information is as follows:—

The grant of an increase of 4% of the first £1,800 of inclusive salary and 3% of the balance of inclusive salary, subject to the following minimum increases (a) Wholetime officers —25/- per week (b) Part-time Officers—pro rata to Whole-time Officers with effect from 1st June, 1969.

Submission of individual proposals by local authorities not necessary (see column 5).

By circular letter dated 20th October 1969, local authorities were informed that the Minister's sanction to the payment of this increase could be presumed where the local authority decided to give it.

To rent Collectors at present in receipt of 29/3d. per cottage —the grant of 30/5d. per cottage as from 1st June, 1969.
