Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension.

14.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if any retired nurse is entitled to old age pension while in receipt of £20 per month as a retirement pension.

If a contributory pension is involved the income of the claimant is immaterial as there is no means test for such pension. In the case of a non-contributory pension the means limit, if there is no child dependant, is £221 15s. per annum. An income of £20 per month would exceed that figure. If the Deputy has a case in mind and will give me particulars I will have it examined. There are various exemptions from income in the assessment of means and it is difficult to be specific without full information of the person's circumstances.
