Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sandymount (Dublin) Strand.

30.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he is aware that since the City Manager assured a delegation from the Sandymount and Merrion Residents' Association on 1st July last that the Corporation would approach the Dublin Port and Docks Board to secure implementation of that body's agreement with the Corporation to build a retaining wall of dry filling at the side of the dumping area at Ringsend and well in advance of it, no action has been taken; and that the situation on Sandymount Strand has continued to deteriorate with rubbish, including offal, being spread across the strand; and whether he will take steps to halt the dumping of rubbish at this point until this retaining wall is built.

I am not so aware. As I indicated to the Deputy in reply to his previous question on this subject on 17th July, 1969, the Dublin Port and Docks Board arranged with Dublin Corporation to construct an embankment stage by stage in advance of filling in of the area by the Corporation. I am informed that this arrangement has been complied with by the Board to the satisfaction of the Corporation and the Board has recently completed a further extension of the embankment consisting of a length of approximately 300 feet of rock filling.
