asked the Minister for Labour how many placement officers are attached to his Department; what are their duties; and where the placement officers for Counties Roscommon and Leitrim reside.

Placement work is a function of employment exchanges and they will continue to carry out this function until the new National Manpower Service has been fully developed. The managers of the exchanges have a special responsibility in this field.

Pending the development of the National Manpower Service a number of special placement officers were appointed in Dublin, Cork, Waterford and Galway on an experimental basis. There are now five of these officers.

The duties of placement officers are to canvass employers for vacancies and to refer job-seekers who appear to be suitable to employers with vacancies to be filled.

The duties of placement officers are ment offices are responsible for placement in Counties Roscommon and Leitrim.
