Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University Grants.

69.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider extending the scheme for university grants to include students doing a diploma course in physiotherapy.

In accordance with the terms of the Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Act, 1968, higher education grants are tenable only in universities or university colleges or in other institutions in relation to courses which are equivalent to university degree courses. Unless and until the course in physiotheraphy is given the status of a degree course grants cannot be paid to students enrolled in it.
