Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lighting of Meath Road.

86.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will have consultations with the appropriate authorities to have proper public lighting installed on the road from Gormanston military camp into Gormanston village, in view of the increase in the number of people using this road in recent months.

The road mentioned is a public road and my Department has no function in regard to the provision of public lighting thereon.

In view of the fact that a decision taken by the Minister's Department in regard to housing refugees at Gormanston Camp has greatly increased the load on this road would the Minister not consider, although he does not have a legal responsibility in the matter, initiating consultation to ensure that proper lighting is installed on this road?

I think it would be more proper for the Deputy to raise this at the local authority.

I am not a member of the local authority.
