Vol. 242 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Housing.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that no new houses have been provided at Tallow, County Waterford, for a long number of years; what steps are being taken to rehouse the people who are urgently in need of rehousing in the district; whether sites have been acquired; and at what stage proceedings are.

I am aware that no local authority houses have been built at Tallow for many years. A site has been acquired by the county council for 58 houses, plans have been approved by me and the council's proposals for the acceptance of a tender for a scheme of 14 houses, as a first stage, are awaited in my Department.

May I take it that this long-awaited scheme may now proceed without hindrance and that there is no delay in the Minister's Department in regard to this matter?

It cannot proceed until there are proposals for the acceptance of a tender.

Will the Minister impress upon the authority concerned the urgency and importance of proceeding with this scheme, having regard to the fact that it is 20 years since a house was built there?

When proposals for the acceptance of a tender are received they will be dealt with. They cannot be dealt with until they are received.
