Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lisdoonvarna Development Plan.

50.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when he expects to have the development plan for Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, implemented; and how much money has been allocated for this purpose.

Funds for the development of tourist resorts are provided to Bord Fáilte each year through my Department's Vote. The preparation and implementation of development plans for particular resorts are matters for settlement between Bord Fáilte and the appropriate local interests.

In the case of Lisdoonvarna, there have been discussions between Bord Fáilte and local interests, and proposals have been drawn up for organisational changes which should facilitate the future development and operation of the resort's attractions and facilities. There are certain legal formalities which must be followed in this matter and I understand that these are proceeding. In the meantime, the question of an outline development plan for the resort is being considered but the board are not in a position to say, at this stage, when the plan can be implemented nor how much money can be allocated for the project.
