asked the Minister for Defence what are the allowances paid to the various grades on reserve in the Army; and when these allowances were (a) originally fixed and (b) last increased.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the grant which is payable to members of the Reserve Defence Force after attendance at annual training. As the required information is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with you permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Generally, it may be said, that in the case of the Reserve, First Line, and the Reserve, An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and An Slua Muirí, these grants were fixed in 1945 and 1950 respectively and have since remained unchanged.

The rates of grants are at present under review.
