Vol. 243 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Security Systems.

48.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare how the Irish social welfare system compares with systems in the EEC countries in terms of benefits and comprehensiveness.

There is a great variety of social security systems in the member countries of the European Economic Community and it is not possible to present a ready comparison between them and the Irish system. It can be stated, however, that social security protection is provided in those countries and in Ireland in respect of the nine contingencies covered by International Labour Conventions No. 102 concerning minimum standards of social security.
