Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Sub-Post Office.

123.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have a sub-post office provided to serve the Killygoan-Farmeehul area adjacent to Monaghan town.

The provision of a sub-post office in the area in question would not be justified.

Is the Minister aware that the population in this area is over 1,000 and that it is likely to increase to 2,000 in the future? Would the Minister reconsider the matter?

We try to look ahead as far as possible in the Department. If the Deputy were to renew his proposal when this future development has taken place it might be more reasonable. As far as Monaghan is concerned there are a number of towns with far greater population which have only one post office. I do not think there is a case for a sub-post office at this stage.
