Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of City Architect.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if Dublin Corporation have yet appointed a city architect; and, if not, when this appointment will be made.

No appointment has been made. A review of the organisation of the city architects department has recently been carried out by the corporation and I have now agreed that the functions of the city architect should be divided between a new post of chief housing architect and a new post of chief civic and amenities architect.

Will the Minister state, first, how long Dublin Corporation have been without an architect and, secondly, if this change is being made in view of the statement by the Taoiseach last July to the effect that there would be a Minister for Housing?

The Deputy did not ask me how long the city has been without an architect.

Is not the Minister aware that the corporation have been without an architect since 1965?

The decision to divide the responsibility is not connected with the matter to which the Deputy refers.

Question No. 22.

Did the Minister not say that Dublin Corporation advertised for a city architect over a year ago?

They did.

They could not get one. Is it because they would not pay him?

Surely the Minister, in getting information on this question, found out when they last had a city architect?

If the Deputy wants to know that, he should put down a question.

If the Deputy knows that, why does he ask this question?

They have not got a city architect.

Question No. 22.

When had they last got one?

The Minister will tell the Deputy if he asks a question.

The Deputy wants economy in questions.

I did not ask for any economy in questions.

Deputy Kitt did.

I am not Deputy Kitt.

The Minister should economise in his answers.
